Can we "skin" a Confluence wiki using CSS to look like our website?
Yes, Confluence can be skinned using CSS to meet your corporate branding requirements. This site is an example of what can be achieved. Take a look at our design examples to see a sample of the work we have undertaken for our clients.
How easy is it to embed media and multimedia into Confluence?
Very easy. It is possible to embed most media and multi-media files into Confluence. For more details see the Atlassian site.
Does Confluence support user subscription emails, and if so does it include an rich text email designer?
Yes users can subscribe to pages or Spaces and they will receive mail alerts every time there is a change. Users can also subscribe to weekly mail reports on Space activity. Pages can also be mailed out to users (or groups of users) in html or text.
Does user access control include the ability to prevent space names appearing to people without the right access permissions?
Yes, view/edit access control is available from space down to page level and controls which spaces users can view in the dashboard.
Do you know of any companies that use wikis to develop user documentation?
Yes, many organisations use Confluence to develop technical and user documentation. This site and company is one of many examples.
Is there a Confluence plugin to support peer review (i.e. controlling the publication of edits, etc)?
Are you aware of a plugin that would help to deploy an FAQ list on Confluence?
There is no specific plugin for FAQs. The FAQs generated [on our site] and on the main Atlassian FAQ use the expand-macro, alternatively Atlassian demonstrate the use of labels to create an FAQ system.
Does Confluence support automatic online spell checking?
Is plugin access managed by user permissions?
Plugins are managed through a plugin repository which is only available to Confluence administrators. Plugins are implemented at a Global level by administrators and then made available to all Confluence users by default. Limiting access to plugin functionality should be managed at a Space and page access level.
Is it possible to automate particular icons to appear in RSS feeds?
Yes. Confluence has a built in RSS feed generator to generate different content feeds via RSS. It is possible to represent each feed with different image icons. Feeds themselves (dependent on the standard used - RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0 or ATOM) display headings, heading and summary or heading and full content.
Is it possible to hide the comment and history of a page so that users will only see the latest version?
In terms of page versions, if a person can see a page (not barred due to permissions), they will always see the latest version on top but can see its version history if seeking it through the page info function. This is a standard function of a Confluence wiki - see here for more about this. We would recommend that pages are developed with restricted access until published. Review comments can be deleted as required. If you want to create a totally clean page with no history we would recommend that you copy just the wiki notation into a new clean page.
Is the Atlassian site built using Confluence?
Atlassian use Confluence for parts of their site but not all. Much of the customisation of sites is achieved through the Theme Builder Plugin which allows you to edit Spaces and the entire instance extensively through a simple WYSIWIG editing tool. It also allows you to create standard layouts and more advanced effects are achieved using CSS. You can use Confluence's layouts to change the layout of the site, add logos and banners, move or change the appearance of menus, and control the display of pages and blog posts.
Are there any supported plugins that offer simple CRM facilities?
There are currently no basic CRM plugins for Confluence. Confluence alone does not provide tracking of The Salesforce.com Plugin is simple and focuses only on contacts.
